Description
TVP is a rich source of protein made from defatted soybean flour. It is high in calcium, magnesium and potassium, contains fibre, no cholesterol, is low in fat and carbohydrates. It is one of the few vegetarian sources of vitamin B12. TVP is an ideal substitute for meat mince and is similar in texture. 1kg of granules is the equivalent of 3kg of meat once prepared.
Once cooked it resembles ground beef. It can be used in a variety of vegetarian dishes as a meat substitute, or can also be used in conjunction with meat to create more substance and protein without adding more meat. Perfect for adding to pasta sauces, spaghetti bolognese, taco meat, veggie patties, chilli con carne, shepherd’s pie, ‘chicken’ noodle soup, meatballs and many more.
How to use
Soak TVP mince in hot water for 10 minutes before adding to your dish. It will absorb the flavours around it so you can also soak it in vegetable (or your favourite) stock to give it added flavour before adding to your dish.
